OVERVIEW
At Medidata, I was a Senior Product Designer on the Data Management team, working on the Study Build platform and its core tool, Medidata Designer.
I partnered with PMs, engineers, and data scientists to streamline how clinical trials are designed and launched, leading initiatives around AI-powered tooling, usability improvements, and scalable design systems. The work supported over 36,000+ trials and 11+ million patients worldwide.
ROLE
Senior Product Designer
TIMELINE
July '24 - July '25
TEAM
3 Product managers, 1 Senior UX designer, 8 Data Scientists, Design Manager, and 15 Engineers.
Medidata Designer is used by Study Builders, Data Managers, and Clinical Programmers to set up trial forms, visits, workflows, and data validation rules. It simplifies how clinical trials are structured, improves accuracy, and ensures regulatory compliance before a study goes live.
PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
As a Senior Product Designer, I wore multiple hats - strategy, interaction design, user research, and usability testing across multiple projects. I conducted UX audits and journey mapping to improve key workflows, consistently balancing user needs, technical constraints, and business goals.
The AI Requirement Generation Tool: enables Study Builders and Data Managers to auto-generate study requirements with the help of AI, reducing setup time from 3 days to ~ 20 minutes.
PRODUCT DESIGN
AI

Global Library Vision (2026 Roadmap): Designed user journeys, permission models, and reusable patterns for Medidata’s library, supporting consistency, governance, and scalability across 4+ product teams.
STRATEGY
PRODUCT DESIGN
USER RESEARCH

Configurable Defaults: Designed a centralized settings system that allowed study builder admins to set character limits, date/time formats, numeric validations, and special character restrictions.
PRODUCT DESIGN
USABILITY TEST

UX Audits: Led UX audits and conducted usability tests with clients, resolving 45+ issues across Medidata Study Build. Improvements led to higher user satisfaction, faster task completion, and reduced bounce rates.
USABILITY TEST
PRODUCT DESIGN

Framing Workshop: led a workshop with 3 PMs, 8 Engineers, 4 Data Scientists, a Principal Designer, and a Senior Product Designer to align on product strategy, user needs, and business goals.

REFLECTION
Things I learned.
Strategic Framing in Ambiguity
Learned how to lead early-stage framing workshops to align PMs, Engineers, and Data Scientists when product goals and AI capabilities were still unclear. Helped define scope, surface risks, and shape MVP direction with cross-functional input.
Turning AI Potential into Product Reality
Worked closely with engineering/data science teams to design around model behavior, thinking through latency, output accuracy, and feedback states. Focused on creating AI-powered tools that still felt intuitive and usable for non-technical users
Designing for Scale and Reuse
Shifted from feature-focused work to thinking in systems. Contributed to the vision for Medidata’s 2026 Global Design Library by identifying scalable patterns that could be reused across teams and products.
Simplifying Enterprise Complexity
I learned how to make complex workflows easier to use without removing the details. Every form and rule has a purpose, so the challenge was simplifying the experience while still giving users the control they need.
